How WMLD Works

The Scene

We coordinate five venues, manage eleven instructors, and keep a regional calendar updated — including events we don't run — so dancers always know where to go.

Instructors

Our instructors aren't hired performers — they're local dancers who grew up in this community. We develop them, pair them with events, and connect them with students for private lessons.

Venues

Every venue relationship is built around making Latin dance nights work. We handle the instruction, the DJ, and the community. They provide the space, the bar, and the atmosphere.

Music

Our DJs are part of the team, not random bookings. They know the crowd, play the right mix of classic salsa, modern bachata, cumbia, and merengue, and set the energy for each venue.

The Bigger Picture

Our calendar includes events from other organizers. A stronger Latin dance scene benefits everyone — we're not competing, we're building.

Our Story

Latin dance had a presence in West Michigan before WMLD. Dancers found each other, and a few regular nights kept the energy going. We wanted to make the scene bigger, more connected, and easier to walk into — especially if you'd never danced before.

That's been the focus from the start. Free beginner lessons at every event. Floors where nobody expects you to know what you're doing. A community where regulars treat newcomers like they belong — because they do.

The community is the reason any of this works. The people who keep coming back, who bring their friends, who make a stranger feel welcome on the dance floor. They built this as much as we did.

We have an incredible team, backed by talented instructors, DJs, and venue partners who shape what each night feels like. WMLD promotes Latin dance across the region — including events we don't run. A stronger scene benefits everybody. Our part is to keep creating spaces where people connect through music and movement, and to keep making it easier for the next person to walk through the door.
