West Michigan Latin Dance exists to grow and connect the Latin dance community across West Michigan.
Latin dance had a presence here before WMLD. Dancers found each other, and a few regular nights kept the energy going. We wanted to help make the scene bigger, more connected, and easier to walk into, especially if you'd never danced before.
That has been the focus from the start. Free beginner lessons at each event. Floors where nobody expects you to know what you're doing. A community where the regulars treat newcomers like they belong, because they do.
We have an incredible team, and we're backed by talented instructors, DJs, and venue partners who shape what each night feels like. But the community is the reason any of this works. The people who keep coming back, who bring their friends, who make a stranger feel welcome on the dance floor. They built this as much as we did.
WMLD promotes Latin dance across the region, including events we don't run. A stronger scene benefits everybody. Our part is to keep creating spaces where people connect through music and movement, and to keep making it easier for the next person to walk through the door.
The people who make it happen.

We want Grand Rapids to have a Latin dance scene that's easy to find, easy to join, and impossible to forget. Free events, great instructors, and a community that treats newcomers like regulars.
Move. Connect. Grow.
The friendships you make on the dance floor carry into the rest of your life. That's the part people don't expect.
Latin dance carries deep roots. We respect where these dances come from and invite people of all backgrounds to be part of it.
Good technique will come with time. For now, we care more about the smile on your face than whether your footwork is clean.
You don't need experience, a partner, or any idea what you're doing. Walk in and we'll take care of the rest.
Multiple venues across West Michigan and growing. Different vibes, same welcoming energy. Dance where you feel most comfortable.
A growing roster of local instructors, with occasional guest instructors — each bringing their own style. Lessons are structured but relaxed, and work for complete beginners and experienced dancers in the same room.
Most of our events are free. 5th Street Hall is $10. Lessons are included at every event. We keep it affordable on purpose.
We're not a franchise or a chain. We're your neighbors who like to dance, and we built something so you could join us. Wear the logo.
Our DJs play the good stuff. Classic salsa, modern bachata, cumbia, merengue. You'll hear songs you recognize and discover new ones.
We rotate partners so everyone gets to dance with everyone. No wallflowers here.
Your first event is this week. Show up, take the free lesson, and see for yourself. Or send us a message first.
